2012-05-28Prof. Zhen Fang at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) has been recently appointed as an Associate Editor for peer-reviewed scientific journal Biotechnology for Biofuels (impact factor 4.15), after the role of being an Editorial Board Member of it for a few months. As an Associate Editor, Prof. Zhen Fang will suggest peer reviewers for manuscripts, as well as make recommendations on a... -
Using solid acid catalysts to hydrolyze biomass for producing biofuels
2012-05-21Owing to the depletion of fossil resources and the increasing demand on fuels, it is important to develop renewable resources to produce fuels and chemicals for energy security. Over the past century, much effort has been made to develop processes for the efficient conversion of carbohydrates to sugars and biofuels. However, the current world bio-ethanol production only accounts for 6.25% of th... -
2012 World Congress of Bioenergy-Renewable Energy for Sustainability
2012-05-10In view of the depletion of fossil fuel reserves together with the ongoing climate change, the utilization of renewable resources for the sustainable development of our society has become indispensible. Biomass, the only current sustainable source of organic carbon, is a promising alternative for fossil fuel to produce renewable chemicals and biofuels. Under this background, BIT’s 2ndWorld Con... -

A new method for producing dye and nano-particles from wood
2012-03-24Wood is mainly composed of lignin (20%), cellulose (50%) and hemicellulose (25%). These components can be catalytic hydrolyzed into their corresponding monomers by conventional enzymes or liquid acids. Among them, cellulose and hemicellulose are hydrolyzed into sugars, such as glucose. Recently, Professor Zhen Fang (http://brg.groups.xtbg.ac.cn/) found that wood could be quickly dissolved and h...
